Terri Kunda - Gao Hong & Kadialy Kouyate

March 24th, 2023 sees the release of Terri Kunda – an exciting collaborative album from musical virtuosos Gao Hong and Kadialy Kouyate. One could consider Terri Kunda to be a truly unique album. For it contains the rare yet captivating combination of possibly two of world music’s most mesmerising instruments: the Chinese pipa, and the West African kora. Infused within these stringed instruments are the histories and traditions of their respective cultures, and they share these stories through musical conversations skilfully conducted by the artists.

Maelstrom - Duplex

Duplex was conceived by two renowned musicians of the Belgian scene – Didier Laloy and Damien Chierici. Those familiar with their respective works might be surprised that the two would unite, given they are from different generations and, ostensibly, disparate musical worlds. The result of their creative communion is Maelstrom – a dreamy and surreal musical travel diary that draws from journeys both real and imagined.

Bach to Folk - Lodestar Trio

Bach to Folk – the debut album of ground-breaking classical / folk triumvirate Lodestar Trio – releases 23rd September 2022. Lodestar Trio is an exciting new collaboration steeped in the sounds of classical and folk music. Formed by three highly regarded musicians from seemingly different worlds but bonded by their mutual desire to explore musical avenues and unearth new qualities in centuries-old traditions, Lodestar Trio brings a bold spark of innovation as they blend genres and influences to create a unique listening experience. Why their music is so compelling could be down to the very makeup of the band. British-German violin virtuoso Max Baillie, having graduated from the renowned Yehudi Menuhin School, is deeply immersed in the classical tradition yet is also a keen collaborator. His eagerness to explore led him to work with diverse talents like John Williams, Bobby McFerrin, Steve Reich and Björk.

Netsa - Minyeshu

Netsa is the latest album from Ethiopian virtuoso Minyeshu and sees its release on August 26th, 2022. Following her acclaimed 2018 album Daa Dee, Netsa – meaning ‘free’ in Amharic – could well be considered the culmination of Minyeshu’s creative voyage, at least so far.

Khiyo - Bondona

Khiyo is a London-based, British-Bangladeshi group formed in 2007. Bassist Ben Heartland joins the co-founders, singer Sohini Alam and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Weeks, as the nucleus of this innovative and inventive ensemble. For Bondona, they and their collective sound are enhanced by the welcome addition of Hassan ‘Moyo’ Mohyeddin on tabla, David Ingamells on drums and Flora Curzon on violin. This growth could be seen as apt development, for evolution is a theme at the very core of Khiyo’s musical ethos. While the band’s roots are deeply interred in Bengali culture and traditions, considering the group’s diverse makeup, it seems natural that they display a bold infusion of influences in their work.
