Flamenco: Pasado y Presente – the latest album from musical virtuoso Ignacio Lusardi Monteverde, releases 24th June 2022.
Ignacio Lusardi Monteverde is a renowned London-based musician and recording artist from Argentina. Having grown up surrounded by music, Ignacio played his first guitar at six. Just three years later, he discovered what would become one of the defining influences of his successful career – flamenco music. Over the following years, Monteverde’s considerable natural talent was enhanced through committed practice. Yet what maybe makes Ignacio such a unique artist is his exploration of, dedication to, and unbridled passion for the musical world. Indeed, the world at large has had an impact on Monteverde.
Having travelled extensively, Ignacio has enjoyed absorbing influences from across the globe, with each impressing an added depth to his performances and compositions, “a flamenco guitar maestro” - International Times, Italy.
Much more than just a performer, Ignacio’s musical proficiency has traversed the more technical side as an accomplished producer, arranger and sound engineer. These skills have led to a veritable bounty of collaborations with notable artists across various musical styles, including Turkish singer Olcay Bayir, Iraqi oud player Ahmed Mukhtar, and Baroque singers Guadalupe Verocay and Inés Maguire. While spreading his talents across multiple musical disciplines provides a substantial workload, Ignacio has once again found the time to create another distinctive album that honours and builds upon the musical traditions he has studied - Flamenco: Pasado y Presente.
Flamenco: Pasado y Presente (Past and Present) is a collection of songs inspired by traditional melodies drawn from the breadth of Andalusia – the unofficial provenance of flamenco. Ignacio has blended these melodies into pieces that paint pictures with sound and explore the themes and emotions integral to life. Through the myriad rhythms that comprise flamenco, the listener can feel the bold energy and vibrance of rumba, the solemnity of seguidillas, and the upbeat ease of bulería flamenco, to name just a few. Flamenco itself has mysterious origins. It is widely accepted to have originated in India, evolving as the nomadic sound crossed the seas, eventually finding a home in Iberia – more accurately, Andalusia. Musical traditions were absorbed and assimilated throughout the journey, including Arab-Moorish and Romanic.
Once settled in its newfound home, the irrepressible sound reached out. It spread to South America, always returning with new beats and rhythms and amplifying the prosperous union of influences that make up the mesmerising melange that is flamenco music. Such is flamenco music’s cultural significance; in 2010, it was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Ignacio Lusardi Monteverde is an acclaimed and award-winning artist, and he is delighted to share with you his passion and talent. Both are clearly displayed in his latest release, Flamenco: Pasado y Presente.
